Re: Dragon Tejina [finished]

Nice graphics and ideas. The game seems to have a lot of bugs at the moment, though. You shot with the X button, while the tutorial told me to fire with the Z button to continue. So I couldn't finish the tutorial. And during the gameplay, I hit a fried mantis and it got stuck ~200 pixels behind me and I wasn't able to fire any longer.

I really loved the player sprite, and enemies. And it was cool to eat enemies to restore health. Good job! I hope you fix the bugs soon (or maybe it was just my computer that was messing with me)  Smiley

Yes, there is a lot of work to do in the next weeks...leveldesign, KI, movement etc...

The Z-button-message in the tutorial is for keyboards with qwerty-layout.
If you have a qwertz-keyboard, try Y instead of Z.
Hope, i have not did a mistake with the button-layout.
Usually, the main fire button is the button on the left near the X-button.

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished]

'y' worked on my keyboard to shoot but its on the top row in the middle far far away from the x key!  Wasn't that big of a deal though I mostly ignored the y key and just hit x alot, which resulted btw in a rate of fire faster then y, you might want to limit how fast a player can shoot with the x key.

Very pretty game, love the art style!  Good work all around.

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished]

Here is a workaround for the Y-Z-Key Bug (already inbuild Smiley ):
Press STRG + Y in the Tutorial/Garden-Level to change the keys.
Unfortunately the changes will atm not be saved.

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished]

I am sorry for the many bugs.

The contest was a challenge for me to complete a little project in a limited time.
With the time he has changed to "what will be done in a limited time".
It is completed (its possible to reach the boss at the end of the level), but not really finished.
Next days i'll post some bugfixes and work hard on things i have let out for this time, like
the magic-powerup-feature and the intro-animation.

Hints:
_________________________________________________
To exit the level after beating the boss at the end,
the dragon has to catch the seed of the flower.
(needs to find some ingredients in the levels for a magic potion)

The S-Key shows/hides the framerate.

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished]

I wouldn't say 'many bugs' just the one problem, it happens when you can't test games on a myriad of computers!  And really the one problem isn't that big of a deal since it has two work arounds.  And I thought it was pretty obvious that I had to get the gem!  Making it shine or something might make it more obvious but I went right to it after beating the boss.

The autofire is the 'y' key.

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished]

apparently some international keyboards switch where the 'y' and the 'z' are from american keyboards.  Have to wonder who decided to do that (from either nation) cause that just makes things difficult!

huh? I have a QWERTY keyboard the Z is in the lower left corner (it does nothing) the Y is at the top next to the T and the U.  I have a standard American English Keyboard.  The X key works to shoot but the Z does nothing.  I am going to try the Y key but I definately dont have a qwertz keyboard?

Also the game UI seems broken in a lot of places.  I couldnt get full screen to work, and also the grass you're flying through dissapears.  I found that you die immediately if you press the D key which is fun haha.. More to come when I finish the final reviwe (which will be available when we're done!)

I discovered that too, I had Fraps bound to 'D' for screenshots and, well, my scores were very poor Smiley

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished]

Tadaaah - and here is it: the Dragon Tejina Build 2 - public update!
Download now: www.maboroshi.de/dt-autofire/dt-build2.zip (6,5 MB)

Main changes:
-full screen is working now
-No more Y-Z-confusion: an new option screen lets you choose custom keys
(therefore the strg-y workaround is disabled)
-Joystick-Support

-the immediate d-key of death was a cheat for some tests, its disabled now
-disabled also is the immediate a-key of boss death
-still working is the s-key for displaying the framerate
-the dissappearing grass is a speedup feature: if the framerate drops under 50 frames per second,
some grass backgrounds dissappear automatically. the grass can now be reappeared by the 1-key (2 for hide)

More changes in the build2.rtf in the game folder.

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished] [updated]

I found out the other day why some keyboards have a different layout then th standard american keyboard.  Apparently 'back in the day' when type writters where big people could literally destory their type writter by typing too fast, the 'type' (not sure what they're called, the little bars that strike the paper) would hit each other on the way to the paper and really mess things up.  So they changed the keyboard to the current american set up to force people to type slower.  While computers obviously don't have the same problem the layout stuck.  Apparently America needs to change its keyboard!  It'd be a pain to relearn how to type though...

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished] [updated]

Wow Jony that's really interesting.  Ya know I type 120 wpm on my american keyboard, I couldnt imagine changing.  It sorta reminds me of how the PHONE keypad and my credit card processing keypad are opposite from my computer keypad. That is really annoying.. haha.. Cuz I use all three, often times I gotta "switch modes" in my head.. kinda like being bilingual maybe?  I dunno.

Re: Dragon Tejina [finished] [updated]

Although I haven't used a keypad for business (ie regularly) since my senior year of high school (seven years ago now) I still find myself trying to use that set up on my phone.  I'm a big fan of standardization. Even if I did have to re-learn how to type I'd rather have the faster keyboard layout, if not for me then for the children!  (suddenly thinking about the simpsons episode where a lady walks on screen and says "won't someone do something for the children!" every few minutes...)
