Attrition

I've been slowly chipping away at a 2D game engine for a few months now and I'm starting to make good progress. The game I'm making is a vertical shmup called Attrition. Here are some videos which show it in its current state. I borrowed some sprites from these forums as placeholders.  Grin

It looks pretty cool, yo. I really love the background in the first video! Reminds me of DoDonPachi Level 3, kinda?

Um! The bullets are a little too blurry. They look more like feathers, and don't have a mean look to them? The non-triangular shape might have a little to do with it. I'm not sure. Look at them a bit.

Oooh. Looks pretty sweet.
But eeengh, shaders, that's going to run at 10fps for me...

And the bullets look nice to me, but they are too blurry.

New Video showing off changing backgrounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF1NU26y7mw The background switches between 2 different Textures and 3 blending modes. Dramatic changes like this will only be happening at special events during actual gameplay.


I reduced the size of the player ship and removed the blur from bullets. I had to rewrite part of my bullet scripter to decouple bullet behavior ( like homing or laser ) from attributes( texture, size, speed, etc. ). Also, another thing you might find interesting is that currently you can change the following without having to recompile.

-Ships
-Bullets( Attributes not Behavior )
-Textures
-Music
-Shaders( if not using Uniform other that sampler2D )
-Ship Spawn and Movement
-Bullet Patterns for Spawned ships


I'm currently playing around with bullet patterns trying to see which ones are the most fun.
