Re: Community Vote!

No reason not to vote for yourself - you can in a national election. It isn't going to distort things much...

Re: Community Vote!

I had fun with several of entries, although choosing only one is pretty easy.  I'm voting for Prototype!  That game's got everything I like in this genre, including things I would have never thought about (like the grappled weapon, where you can rotate it around your ship and fire in whatever direction you desire - friggin' awesome!).  Plus, the interface really takes me back to the days of the Commodore Amiga, where programmers would really stylize their intros and menus.  And the music is very befitting of the game; its exciting beat keeps me on my toes while blasting baddies, and the 'game over' music makes me want to throw the game controller through the monitor when I blow up my last ship as I curse so loud my neighbors call to complain.  Heck, this game's got everything!

Now, if I had to choose several games of which to vote, then THAT would be tough!  I liked Cognizance, because of its 'level up' ability and that it's so different from the usual 'flying thing shoots badguys'.  It really breaks the mold for shooters!  My wife would throw in a vote for Velocity The Bee, because it's just so danged cute.  I like the concept, and the obstacles in the game are probably things that a real bee would have to deal with in its day-to-day activities.  Very creative!

All in all, I'm having a blast playing everybody's entries!  But my top vote's for Prototype, because that's definitely the type of game I really enjoy.  And it's the game I have the fewest complaints with as I play it...  The only complaint I'd have would be the Game Over screen - it lasts too long and it gives me too much time to want to break my game controller.  It would be REALLY cool to be able to smack a button and interrupt the Game Over screen and take me directly to the Main Menu screen.  Aside from that, this game absolutely ROCKS.  Great job, X-0ut!

Oh, I didn't mean "you are stupid not to vote for yourself", I just meant that nobody should feel ashamed of doing that.

Re: Community Vote!

I really like Prototype (except of the game over screen - it lasts so long Sad ) and the graphics of velocity were really nice, the ideas are also very cool. And Astronomo Rex has a nice steering, but I can't see my bullets (can only hear them) Grin In the end I voted for Prototype - it's the game I played the longest time and still do! In the older version I had the mid-stage boss was unbeatable but I tried and tired, glad that I came through it now. I would like to thank all contributors for their games - unfortunately I dropped my project and switched to C++ Ill be in the next contest hopefully!

Re: Community Vote!

Hehe. Actually, if you really enjoyed what you worked on and are satisfied with the results -- i.e., your personal goals for your project were met according to your standards, I don't think there's anything wrong with voting for your own entry, as long as you are honest to yourself that it indeed is your own personal favourite.

I personally wrote Cyberspace Assault as a game I would play and enjoy myself; the features, graphics, music, and gameplay I have built into it is a representation of what I would want a modern shmup to be. It may be a bit far from how others idealize a shmup, but for me, for an application developed in a span of two months, it's nothing less than perfect.

So as a pat in the back to myself for a job well done, I shamelessly vote for my own contest entry. Smiley
