Judging Situation

Well, I last talked to our third Judge, Steve Bisson (Dakurv) before last weekend and he said he'd have his reviews before monday and that has already passed us.  I have tried countless times to contact him via MSN, email, and he is not responding.  I would like to inform the public that if I cannot get reviews from him by next sunday he'll be dropped out as a judge, and we'll jkust use the scores from both Sean Doherty and I.

Thanks you everyone for your participation!

Re: Judging Situation

Hey, telling from your game entry that I have played, the2bears, I am sure you will make the top ten indeed.  Believe me.  Wink !

And I wonder what the very heck happened with the third judge Dakurv.  I was hoping he was tallying up the scores and getting them sent on time.  Man!  And it is Tuesday night in my neck of the woods already!  Sad

Anyway, I for one cannot wait to see the results myself, so I am like “Bring ‘em on, let’s do it!!”, you know?  Grin

One could get disqualified, though.

Why is that  Huh?  It would be a true shame, no offense to my game and the rest but yours was top of the bunch.

Re: Judging Situation

If there are only 2 judges (if that is the case) and "at least" one of the them can't start the game...I'm in the deep.
Well, not me, but the entry anyway.  Grin

Re: Judging Situation

I think the influence of one judge out of three is very substantial. I hope the third set of results pushes through as well.

Re: Judging Situation

Unfortunately, Steve hasnt repleid at all, he logs in online but ignores me.  I have decided to go ahead with the results so they should be up and running by sunday this weekend.  I am sorry, dissapointed, and regret getting Steve on board as a judge.  At any rate, the results must go on, and I'm looking forward to shooting off a press release as well!

Sorry to hear that. What happened to Neil then? Wasn't he available as a judge this time around?
Anyway, looking forward to the results.

Cheers!

Re: Judging Situation

I am *so* sorry to hear that as well ( Sad ), considering that even judges are supposed to deliver the goods and get the job done on time as well.  Anyway, a tough sacrifice it seems at this current point, but hey, do what you gotta do, Matt!  Wish you well with bringing out the results for us!!  Cool !

Well, he's shooting himself in the foot.  A simple note explaining his situation would have been fine, as it is now he's looking stupid within a relatively small community.  Enough about that though, this site's been too slow recently Smiley  Let's get the next contest going, starting Aug. 1st!  Smiley

Re: Judging Situation

Do consider having four judges next time.

And I wish Steve Bisson the best. He's a swell guy, and we're all hoping that he's not in trouble or anything. Sorry to hear about the delay, but a man's health and welfare must come first.

I vote for August 1st as well! Hope to see you guys there!

Re: Judging Situation

if i had an entry, i would be pushing for the results as well. Smiley

but i think having two scores won't affect the outcome much for this competition, since there's not many entries. Plus I'm sure the judges have their minds set on the winners. Smiley

Well, congratulations to everyone who submitted. It's two months worth of hard work, so that's really an achievement by itself!

Re: Judging Situation

Well everyone wants some form of "momentum" constantly, but that just can't happen all the time.  I don't see any reason the activity wouldn't rise back up when the pages are in though ^_^;;  No worries.  I check in quite often and news spreads fast.

Re: Judging Situation

I was not speaking as a entrant, rather that it's now well over a month since the contest closing was announced and some gaming news sites covered this story (not talking about my blog).  I was just commenting that to them it's been a long time in between announcing the close and announcing the winners.

My game got rated 6/10 on a Czech download site (at least I think it did... translations are so dodgy Smiley )

I'm pretty happy with that Smiley

But most of all... I can't wait to get going on the next contest!

Re: Judging Situation

I know how the life thing can go, since I'm also married and have an unpredictable job (on-call service work on hosipital equipment).  It sometimes makes it really hard to find time to work on my videogame projects!  But my games aren't on any sort of time schedule, so if I don't get something done in a couple of months (or longer Shocked ) then the world's certainly not going to end.

But this website is different, in that it is a unique and prominent entity on the Web.  As such, it should be maintained regularly if it's to continue to grow.  For instance, how can other websites promote the contests on this site if there's no concrete schedule?  People then browse this way and see that the site is behind schedule, and then dismiss this site as slow or dead.  Stuff like that only makes this site lose credibility, which is unfair for the guys and gals who put effort into making those contests a reality with their submissions, and it's also not good for this website as a whole.

I admire Matt for singlehandedly spearheading the shmup-dev contests and keeping this site alive.  Performing site administration, advertising the contests, garnering endorsements, and obtaining prizes is quite a task.  Kudos!  And I also understand it if Matt runs into busy spells or gets burned out from constantly babysitting the site.

But if Matt needs to work on more pressing matters, then why not get some buddies to take care of this site?  That way, Matt can do the life thing and shmup-dev.com will still get maintained in a timely manner.  The website will stay fresh and exciting, the community will continue to grow, shmup-dev.com will increase in popularity, and Matt will get a well-deserved break from time to time.

I dunno about you guys and gals, but finding some extra site admins sounds like a win-win situation to me.  I'm not talking about forum admins, I'm talking about site administrators.  This site needs more than one person working on day-to-day website duties if it's going to stay alive.  So let's do something to put this site back on track!  I for one don't want to see this awesome and unique site go to waste!

Well, that might be a good idea, I personally have little web based knowledge. I'm jus here to ensure the content of the site.
