Re: Judging Situation

It's EXTREMELY common for something fresh/new to happen, expectations are high, the site gets busy, lots of visitors, etc, etc. Then reality sits in, jeesh, I just spent a crap load of time on this thing and I could have made more money working at McDonalds. wait...that's my story not Matts. (I hope!)

Slow growth is the key, fast growth, quick peaks, etc, can kill a site very quickly. Things get overwhelming, etc. I still think the whole competition thing is a winner, but just not so often, instead go for bigger and better prizes, etc, perhaps an annual big event, etc, etc.

My advice to Matt, slow down, take a deep breath, don't worry about what anyone says. Think long term, not so much short term. Think where you want the site to be in 3-5 years, not 3-6 months. Wink

Re: Judging Situation

well I'll be over at the2bears web site reading the dragon shmup competition entries review and catching up with the latest shmup releases, while shmup-dev takes it's time preparing the results. send me an email (sometime this year, hopefully) when it's ready. *chuckle*

just kidding. Smiley

Anyway here are the reviews:
Fleur de Luce, Dragon Dancer, Born of Fire, Hiryu, Dragon Forever
Draginstein, Dragon's Ride, Visible Entity, Smark's Lair, Sovereign's Slave

Send some money to this guy immediately.

Honestly, I don't see why it's taking so long to review seven entries. be fair to the entrants, at least let them know who won instead of keeping them waiting, 'cause then they may not want to enter the next competition.

what's the point of having a competition deadline if the judges can't keep to their own schedules, eh...  Wink

come back matt, we need you now! don't pull a dakurv and set your status to busy! (hehe)

hmm, no response at all...

(the results had better be out on tuesday, i know matt keeps his promise!)

Re: Judging Situation

Hello everyone!

I'm finished!  http://www.shmup-dev.com/dcontest

Thank you for your patience!  I promise that the next contest results will be posted much sooner than this.  I am sorry that this one took so long, it was not intentional.  I am thinking a co-site admin would be great, and I'd be willing to share all ad revenue with them, pm me if interested.

I will be posting an official announcement along with a press release tomorrow.  Until then, enjoy!

Re: Judging Situation

Cool.  I'm surprised by the results.  I felt for sure that other games would come in ahead of mine.  I'm also sorry to see that Dragon's Ride, Draginstein and Fleur de Luce were disqualified.  All three worked on my computer and they were all great games.

Re: Judging Situation

Me too.. I really was hoping the other games worked.  It was sad to see the second contest go to 10 games instead of 20, and then disqualifying 3 was even worse!  But, I am very enthuisiastic about our next contest scheduled for September 1st.  I am aiming for something more dev-friendly and I think it will do by far better than the first two combined!  All and all, I still think that this competition was great, and I love the games that came out because of it!

Re: Judging Situation

September 1st, eh?  Well, I hope I can finish up my work by then.  I also hope the competition's a little late to come.  Why? "Well, I hope I can finish up my work by then". ^_^;;

Re: Judging Situation

I just wanted to note that a Japanese shooting game site mentioned the dragon competition. Well, no big feature on their site, but it would definitely be very nice to see some Asian shmup developers on here. Wink

Here's the news on Danmaku Gata: http://samidare35810101.jog.buttobi.net/

Yes, Danmaku Gata (whom I often get stories from and are a great resource) will sometimes post on stuff from my site too.
