lotsa pixel Ships~

Hey all, I got pretty crazy with a collab currently running at pixel-pax @ deviantArt.

And then it striked me: " so many ships, lets pack em up here, for everyone free to use!?"

You don't even have to give credit! isn't that crazy? Shocked

anyway on to the sprites:
Here are the Player ships. one is a larger ship that could be used for several thingies.

and here are the alien ships so far:
I think this fits as an Item-carrier :3
It's fast Shocked
It's mean :O

Backgrounds:
space-bg-scroll

there are more to come, I'll keep this post updated.

NOTICE: seems like the forum only allows for a fixed number of pictures, per post. I will have to spread this on other posts :/

Wow I'm impressed.  Amazing sprites and an awesome contribution to the site.  I'm sure people doing the rapid prototypes could sure use some of those.  Kudos to you and thanks.  Score++.

Thanks for these great works!

I know how much time is involved with making pixel art style work.

Re: lotsa pixel Ships~

hey thanks for the score guys - I wana break the highscore Grin

anyway, I thought, every Shmup needs some kind of Background, so I did a tileable generic space scroll - again, free to use Smiley

!SCALED here's the unscaled version http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z180/Squirrelsquid/freespace.gif

@ Pixel_Outlaw: actualy, I'm a real fast pixler, and such a small ship is done in about 20 to 35 minutes. The Bigger ones are all under an hour. The Background was done in about 2 hours - although dirty tricks where "somewhere" involved in the creation of the BG, so it went a lot faster than doing it all by hand... although that it ain't as smooth as it could been. But it gets the job done IMO Wink

Re: lotsa pixel Ships~

This ain't Pixel Joint buddy. Dirty tricks are fine by me and I count pixel art a style rather than a tecnique.

I've proven this time and time again by showing the math behind those evil tools like the cubic curve and transparency. If you have a tool and it produces the effect you want then by all means use it.

Those are really epic man! GREAT BOSSES. Most people can't be bothered to do animations yours look great. The colors remind me of the Breath of Fire RPG games.

Haha, the song popped into my head and then I saw that boss sprite, I couldn't help it.

I have to agree, you do great pixel art. ^^  If you don't mind me asking, what are you inspirations/references for the style?

thank you ^^.

There are no real references. at least I normaly don't use any in the process. Inspiration came ofcourse from many great shootemups. and animes' giant robots, Suppose.

Heck I was bored and decided to throw a few of the graphics into my current project. At least just to see how they looked.  It didn't turn out that bad. ^^

I've thrown em into my prototype, since at the very least they are far more attractive than what I have been using.
Awesome job Grin.

EDIT: Just looked at the colab, and I gotta say, I like your submissions the best. You really are awesome.

Re: lotsa pixel Ships~

I've came to notice something recently --

Your graphics are near exactly similar to DoDonPachi's graphics. Your angles, your animation style, and your color choice. Even your concepts look similar, as well as the resolution.(as far as I can tell.)

This is bringing up strange conclusions in my mind.

It was such an absurd idea I thought it better to leave it as an innuendo, and let other fill in the blank.

I thought he might have had something to do with making the graphics for DoDonPachi.

The reason it's better to be explicit is that your original post seemed to me an accusation of copying.

Re: lotsa pixel Ships~

that conclusion is false.

I like the DDP ships, yes. They are inspiring, yes - but I never tried to mimic them, or have ever studied them in detail.

I don't like copies, that's why I don't have a "pixel art studyfolder", like most do. I just simply open up photoshop and start pixeling.

you can view the progress I had, over the years in my PJ gallery, btw. http://www.pixeljoint.com/p/1889.htm?sec=icons&pg=1

oh, and I didn't work on DDP... back when DDP was released, my skills where not at that level yet.

Oh.  Shocked

@Squirrelsquid

Ah, I see. Yes, I've seen your PJ gallery before, quite nice.  Wink

And oh well, conclusions from flimsy observations usually turn out false anyway. It definitely would have been interesting though, if an artist from Cave was lingering around the forums.

Re: lotsa pixel Ships~

SquirrelSquid's sprites are indeed very popular. I think we need to commission him to do some more so that everyone has a little more variety to work with. Grin
