RagePixel - pixel art plugin for 2D games in Unity
Has anybody here tried this? It looks like it would be ideal for pixel-art shmups.
I'm starting to look into Unity myself now as I've become frustrated with the limitations of Torque2D.

Hey up. Yeh I've played a bit with RagePixel, I made a little game with it pretty quickly when Keely first released the engine -> Balloon Cat.
It's a really fun little tool but unfortunately its stuck in the beta stage since Keely started working for Unity shortly after and thus had to abandon the tool. There's a fair few bugs remaining in it and I gotta say that unfortunately, as cool as it is, I wouldn't trust using it for a larger project I cared about. Also its a pretty small tool and is missing a fair few features which aren't likely to get written now unless you do so yourself so its maybe not the best tool to rely on for anything but the simplest games. The good news is though he's now released it open-source with an MIT license so there's nothing to stop anybody from continuing the work but as far as I know no-one has comitted to it as of yet.
In general regarding Unity though I'd definately recommend giving it a look into, its a pretty neat engine and is certainly productive to use. It's not ideal for 2D games however, the focus of the engine is definately 3D. Not that its too hard to get 2D results out of it though and if you dont want to roll your own sprite engine there's plenty of 2D solutions available on the asset store.

I'm taking a good look at Unity now myself as I'm finding Torque to be just too buggy and the support from Garage Games isn't reliable enough. I need an engine that I know will be dependable if I'm going to invest serious time in developing larger games.
