Yup that seems to work ;) . For the record though, I would vote droneswarm if it was an option :D, I really liked that one.

"Robot with Shield" please! Make it a fast paced action shmup :)
What control schema are you using to flip sides? I like the system Cave uses in Death Smiles, with a button mapped for each side.

First I wanted to vote for NanoDoctor, but when berilium reminded me of "Death Smiles" I changed my mind in favor of "Robot with Shield" - can't hurt to have another one like that :-) And yes, DS' control scheme with buttons for each side is definitely worth to be a source of inspiration!
Hornet600S was it before

Actually I didn't go with a deathsmiles control scheme for that prototype, I used one button for shoot and another for turn. The reason for this is that your shield (which can absorb a few shots before breaking) drops whenever you're shooting, and I wanted the player to be able to turn without dropping their shield.

That game also has an unusual enemy spawning system... Waves always spawn from the right, but if you kill the entire wave, a duplicate wave spawns on the left. This way you can make it easier on yourself by leaving the last enemy in a wave alive, or you can go for a higher score and keep your multiplier going by clearing the entire wave and trying to get the enemies behind you too.

I agree with berilium, the horizontal shmup prototype would work great as a fast paced shmup.

Intersting... Not many games go with the Defender/Stargate "reverse" button these days. :)

I like the third one better, but I think NanoDoctor could be really amazing, there is so much to do with this concept

The third one, also, reminds me of Section Z on the NES!
