Lunacy Star Series
I've been working on some Game Maker shmups for a little bit.
Lunacy Star 2
At completion, the game will feature 11 stages, 5 bosses, and three bonus levels and one bonus boss, as well as two difficulties and three player shot-types.
I began work on this game shortly into January of 2012, but it's been on hiatus since May. I'm pushing for a finished version (one that actually has backgrounds!) sometime late this year.
Lunacy Star 1
This game features six stages, six bosses, and an unlockable bonus level. There are six player shottypes and four difficulties. This game makes markedly less sense and lacks some of the cohesion behind the sequel, but that was part of the reason that it existed; at first I just wanted to make a shmup just because :V
It wasn't Lunacy Star like it is now until September of 2011, but development on it's engine can be traced back to July of 2011.
Woefully, neither of these games are 'finished,' per se.
I've yet to balance the ridiculous first game, and complete the bonus stage for it, and the sequel is missing it's final stage. The latter is most likely to be the one that is finished, however, as the first is more or less abandoned at this stage.
Worth noting, too, is that the graphics are probably not optimal, but I feel no shame in blaming that on my being 16 and trying to juggle this mess single-handedly from programming to music with work and school.
Regardless, if you're willing to look past this and play the last releases,
Lunacy Star Second v 0.72 can be found here (32 MB)
*with some weird thing regarding the display of highscores over 100,000,000, but this has no effect on the game
The original Lunacy Star v 0.8 can be found here (8 MB)
I'll keep this thread posted with news and updates regarding the games, though.
A third is planned, but there's no concrete progress that will be made for a while. It is, however, a radical change from the Touhou-esque style of it's prequels.

Re: Lunacy Star Series
I took a look at the second one. It plays great. Very satisfying item collecting, and some inventive bullet patterns. I liked the bullets that changed speed from some enemies, they made for very attractive patterns. Looking forward to seeing this finished, I think with backgrounds and the final boss artwork it's going to be very nice indeed. If there was anything you could add, I think some animation on the player's ship would be nice, such as banking when it turns.

Heheh, thank you. I fully intend to make those graphics, eventually :V
I actually ran through the game and looked for this. I was under the impression that this was widely used ._.
This will happen, eventually. For now, though, largely superficial changes such as this are of low priority.
I'm currently working on Stage 5-1. Could I perhaps get a word on the difficulty of the game? I've been told numerous times it's too hard (despite the second specifically being made to be easier :3 )

No stick support :( I'll try again later with joy2key but I don't have it installed right now. Looking forward to play these (:

Re: Lunacy Star Series
I've updated the Soundcloud set with some new tracks.
http://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/sets ... tar-second
As for Stage 5-1...

...What? Too hard?
Stick support will be a thing just as soon as I can buy one.
I actually started out the movement controller to be compatible with not only joystick control, but customizable key maps. It'll happen at least before 1.0
Thanks for checking it out~

Re: Lunacy Star Series
Okay, I've implemented support for the Extra Stage and will now be working on adding control editing.
I'm also doing a little bit of bugfixes, such as the erroneous high score display when your score exceeds the <100,000,000 portion of the display.
There's also a little thing where playing the game on Turbo Mode will cause the time on attacks to still flow at a 1:1 speed, rather than 1:1.5, like it should. I've just fixed that. I hope no one tries to pacifist Turbo Mode any time soon.
I've also noted that making the shift to GM 8.1 causes items to be dropped twice. I'm considering keeping it, but it makes scores of 1 billion and more so easy to get :<
I might also be working on sprites for the bosses (For once!)
No word on when that'll actually come to fruition.
If anyone would like to try out Stage 5-1 and Stage 5-3 then you're more than welcome to ask for a beta <3
